Can you give me your opinion on my main character?
NOTE: This is still a work in progress. All CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, tips, and comments are appreciated.
—
Name: Mangetsu no Hyouga
Age: 15
Appearance/Mannerisms:
Hair is dark blue and spiky – for some unexplained reason it just defies gravity. His eyes are pupil-less and completely grey – he looks blind, he is around six feet-tall and muscular, he has a tendency of keeping his head bowed low as he walks, he sleeps for sixteen hours a-day, he believes that "everything [in this world] is troublesome," his first word was "troublesome" (TWA-bol-SUM, whatever,) he calls sake "allegedly alcoholic," his favorite food is ramen. He tends to look down on those he deems of as less intelligent or those that believe that are above him (the upper class) He never refers to his apprentice by her first name (ironically, this is all she calls him by,) he is a solitary person – when he is first introduced to his student he states that he does not wish to travel "… with some annoying brat!"
Background:
He is an orphan from the village Fubuki. Compared to the rest of the children his age he didn’t have a great childhood – partially responsible for this was his "thirst for knowledge" which led him to practice the forbidden arts of his people, but mostly responsible was an unspoken law in the village, dealing with some past event, which dictates – "no orphans are allowed." Because of these two reasons he was alienated from the children his age, was barely fed, the adults and older children would beat him, and had a tree to call "home" – this went on until the day he was ten years-old, when he finally forced to leave.
People:
The people of his world LOVE war and because of this they train children to be soldiers since the age of four. The first training the children receive is "suppression training" and then "endurance training" (basically, extreme forms of meditation and endurance training – it lasts about two months, those that survive continue their studies) At the age of ten children "graduate" from school, becoming a minor form of adult and are free to do with their lives as they wish (join the army)
World:
His world is "parallel" to ours. It’s basically the same, minding a load of exaggerated geographical features and the following facts:
* Northwest is actually North
* One year is fourteen months long – hence, if one says they are twelve they are actually fourteen
* No one has a family name
* Modernization and industrialization have not occurred – they still live in a feudal/medieval era society ruled by limited monarchies
* There are no forms of "modern technology"
The world is split up into seven countries, called "Regions," each named after its geographical features. Hence, we have the following: the Wing Region, the Fire Region, the Water Region, the Earth Region, the Plant Region, the Lightning Region, and the Ice Region. Each region has its own language: Polish, Spanish, Latin/English, Swahili, French, Romanian, and Japanese/Chinese. However these languages are only used to name certain things (people, places, etc.) and instead English is the language under which all are united. There is ALWAYS a war between two, three, or four regions. There has only been one case of worldwide war – which lasted over ten years and and eradicated over fifty-percent of the world’s population.
Family:
He comes from an ancient 1500 year-old clan served by foxes. Formerly, it was a hugely populated clan, but has since been dwindled down to four members. It is and was made up of mostly women. In fact, including Hyouga, only three males have ever been born into the clan. They are known for their hair – dark blue and in varying spiked styles.
Okay, I’ll say this first: I like Hyouga. He’s one of those unpleasant characters that you can’t help but like, and his past gets the sympathy glands working.
Now, my immediate reaction to this was, "Whoah, Naruto flashbacks." Hyouga reminds me of a mix of Naruto (the foxes, the ramen, the orphan thing, treated badly), Sasuke (anit-social, the hair, grey eyes), Gaara (general distaste of people), and Shikamaru ("troublesome", sleeps a lot). Also, there’s the: training the young, different countries based on geographical features, parallel world very similar to ours, etc. And this is with me not even reading to Shippuuden yet…
I think it’s safe to assume that you got the idea from Naruto (if not, then, holy crap, talk about coincidences XD). Also, I don’t know if you plan to make this a manga or a novel, but either way, it’s going to attract the same crowd, and with Naruto being popular, the similarities WILL be noticed. Just a warning. It seems like you’ve done a good bit of planning, so I hate to tell you that you should scrap it and start over. However, I would seriously consider changing some more things around to make it less similar, if I were you.

Chronic Cough w/some strange spasm?
I have this chronic cough, that I have had for YEARS. Along w/the cough, I have developed this strange spasm that I need to exhale air quickly. Almost like I’m trying to suppress a cough? I have an appointment with a pulmonologist coming up. I have seen the doctor and he gave me Singulair a couple days ago. However I feel like it’s getting worse. I’m constantly having this need to "exhale air" quickly. Thoughts?

what are the top 10 best sci fi movies?
hi i would like to know what your top 10 sci fi movies are
i don’t really mean like ghosts or demons but like travailing to different worlds … umm aliens .. umm element powers…ummm strange stuff happening to the world(((((when i say elements not like super hero movies i.e, superman))))))) weird stuff like that but i really dislike paranormal activity movies
some of my fav. are sci fi, mystery
i also like anime (Japanese cartoons) they have some really cool ones..
like one sci fi i saw recently was called "city of ember",also "district 9" that was a good one so was "doomsday"
PS: im a complete sci fi geek =P
well anything thats not about ghosts or demons
I would say these, however, you’re really limiting it because they’re a lot of sci-fi movies that aren’t ‘out of this world.’
Also, some of these movies are part of a series, so I will include the series as a whole. Some of these aren’t ‘out of this world,’ but this is my list.
Alien (I’d include Aliens as well, but not the other sequels).
Star Trek (I personally like part 2 and part 6, as well as the new one that’s the re-load)
Enemy Mine
Star Wars (obviously, part 3, 4, and 6 are my favorites)
Stargate
Planet of the apes (the original)
Blade Runner *NUMBER ONE FOR SURE*
Terminator
The matrix
The Thing
Generico | Jan 23, 2010
If you like both sci fi and anime then watch the movie Akira, its awesome.
Along with the matrix series there is also the Animatrix, which is basically anime set in the matrix world occurring long before the movies take place.

I honestly haven’t seen all that many, and I’ve yet to see a lot of the acclaimed stuff like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner, but here are the 10 best I’ve seen:
1. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006)
2. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984)
3. Metropolis (1927)
4. The Iron Giant (1999)
5. Star Wars (I’m just gonna count the series as one so that I can add more)
6. Treasure Planet (2001)
7. A Trip to the Moon (1902)
8. Tron (1982)
9. City of Ember (2008)
10. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005)
Also, Westworld (1973) and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001) were really cool.
(Looking back) I guess I’m not sure having four animated movies in my top six really does a lot to validate my opinion on such topics ![]()

A Scanner Darkly. Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr. There’s no way you could do anything but love it.
The Day The Earth Stood Still. Keanu Reeves. It really changed the way I view a lot of things. Like, the entire human race.
The Matrix. Keanu Reeves. The first one is best. Don’t waste your time with the Animatrix. My brain dissolved and melted out my eyes when I saw it.
The Astronaut’s Wife. Johnny Depp comes back from space with an alien inside of him.
Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home. Undoubtedly the best Star Trek movie ever.
Planet Terror, Shaun of the Dead. If you like great zombie films.
Avatar. I saw it a couple hours ago; it blew my mind. The most beautiful movie I’ve ever seen.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The Invasion is the newest remake.
Powder. Sean Patrick Flannery plays a beyond-genius albino kid with electrolosis powerz. Just pure amazing.
2012. Surprisingly good.
The Core. AMAZING.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide To the Galaxy. Read the book because it’s waaaay better.
As for anime, I suggest Princess Monanoke, My Neighbor Totoro, and Spirited Away. My friend really liked Kiki’s Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky, which I have yet to watch. I’m a huge Pokemon fan.

Why is Roanoke called "The lost colony"?
I really hate history class…
This is such an interesting question, that researching it should make you LOVe history!
The Lost Colony is one of the great mysteries in American history!
The Roanoke Colony on Roanoke Island in Dare County in present-day North Carolina was an enterprise financed and organized by Sir Walter Raleigh. It was carried out by Ralph Lane and Richard Grenville (Raleigh’s cousin) in the late 16th century to establish a permanent English settlement in the Virginia Colony. Between 1585 and 1587, several groups attempted to establish a colony, but either abandoned the settlement or disappeared. The final group of colonists disappeared after three years elapsed without supplies from the Kingdom of England during the Anglo-Spanish War, leading to the continuing mystery known as "The Lost Colony".

You clearly have paid absolutely no attention at all. It’s called the lost colony because some people went back to England to get supplies and when they came back, the whole colony was gone. Google it if you need more.

trying to conceive question..a little confused. HELP!!?
ive been ttc for a few months now. no results yet. but im not stressed about it yet either. does anyone know the answer to this specific question? They say the man is suppose to "finish" first, especially in the missionary style..because if the girl "finishes" first then the acidity in her fluid can kill the sperm. Does this mean theat after my husband is done, than so am i??? or can we continue until im "happy" too??
Thank You all for your answers!! They are very helpful to me and i feel more relieved..ill be keeping you posted
this isn’t true because the acidity in natural vagina moisture is harmful to sperm not just when you finish but this is one of the reasons it is carried out in semen to protect the sperm and when you are most fertile you have a clear sticky and stretchy cervical mucus this isn’t as acidic as normal moisture, so you can carry on until you are ‘happy’, i hope this helps if you need any more info just ask xx
myblog | Jan 31, 2010
If you are ovulating then your cervical mucus will protect his semen from the acidity of your vaginal fluids. It acts as a natural shelter agasint the harmful acid. They say if a women has an orgasm that the cervix contracts drawing in more sperm. Goodluck!

Do You Like My Storie I Wrote For This Girl?
As the, moonlight glimmers and sparkles over her shoulder. He watches from a far, far distance, that to him it seem permanent but knows its not forever. As her smile, its reflected over, and over in his mind, the way it spread across her face, getting bigger with each compliment, he feels proud to be the one making it. Her eyes softly brush across the words hes wrote, repeating them to her self as she reads them word by word. staring at her hair, it looks as soft as the Midnight clouds, as she slowly brushes it away from her eyes, to only read his reassuring words of care and taking away her fear of being alone. He watched her hands as she slowly lowers them from her head, he could only stop and wish they would interlock with his. The thoughts of her soft hands, grazing upon his made his heart skip beat like it was the first to last. As he eagerly waits for the reply, then a tear would slowly run down his cheek and drip from his chin , as each of her words are so gentle and kind. He could not only wonder, why were they so close, but yet so distant. he stopped, his large muscular hands ran down the, pale white keys, dropped down from the desk. hung down by his sides he threw his head back, there was only one question he could ask himself. " What was he doing?"
It was so wrong but it felt so right. Every time his eyes met hers, he would take 1 long deep breath, and just smile, smile like it was the 1st morning of summer or like he had taken his 1st kiss, or it was Christmas and he had gotten the one thing he longed for. He would try and give hints, clues anything, he would sing to her, leave her sweet emails, even wright her stories. Maybe she was blind to his love. Or didn’t she want to believe it. He couldn’t care less, of what he was doing wrong. He just cared about her, holding her when she cried, and making the pain going away. Laughing when she laughed, even if he didn’t know why she laughed. He wanted to lie next to her as she drifted away in his arms. He just wanted to be the one. The one she cried for when she was in unbearable pain. The one she would think of, and get distracted. The one she always talked about, thought about, dreamed about. He wanted to be the one. The one to give her his jacket when it got cold. The one to walk her right to her door step before the kiss goodnight. He wanted to be the one she loved. It was Obvious he was dreaming.
And these dreams they don’t come true.
The same as every night, the agony to say goodbye crushed his insides. wondering when the next time he will speak again to her is. But tonight, this goodbye was like no other goodbye, it seemed, deeper and more meaningful from her side. Then his heart sank to the bottom of his stomach as he searched the words above, " I wont be on for a few days". suddenly he felt alone, who was going to be there when he needed someone the most. The sadness he felt, he started finding it hard to give her the perfect goodbye. tossing gentle but firm words around. persuading her not to leave, without actually saying it. It may have been a few days to her, but a life time to him. As she leaves, he continues to read her last words on the screen over and over. repeating them in his mind like a broken record, but it was his favorite song. He just sat waiting and wondering, wondering and wish, just hoping for the chance that she may sign back in again. He wanted another chance to say goodbye. Every time he closed his eyes When he was wishing for her to come back, he would notice her big green eyes reflected in his mind, staring right at him as she smiled. She was a amazing person, why couldn’t she see it.
A day without her was hard enough, he felt sick, alone, hurt. The girl he loved, didn’t want to be around him. It was so obvious, and it was simple what she felt for him. When night falls he sits, awaiting on her, staring blankly at the screen. Maybe by some chance she just signs in. As he looks up she catches a glance of him self, in the large over set mirror behind his hard solid wood desk. His large hands, slowly lifting graze his pale white face, and drifted over his pale Pink soft lips. He could only think one thing as he tossed his head back, and drew this fingers through is longish black soft hair. And he asked himself this, "Why aren’t i good enough."
Was it time he give up, give up on her, on himself,
On life?
i actually read it and i like it..what a lucky girl

Words to help my pain?
Ok so what i’m going to tell you has a lot of sexuality so if you don’t want to continue that was your warning…
In April of this year i started dating my girlfriend, who was the sweetest most innocent girl there was. I know it sounds crazy but it wasn’t long before we really fell in love. We said we loved each other about a month and a half into dating and we actually meant it. I know how it sounds but its true. Now here’s where the sexuality comes in and please take this seriously. Around the middle of May we got really intimate and i fingered her and she jacked me off. Sorry for my wording, i just didn’t know how else to say it. I knew for a fact, and could put my life on it, that she had never done that with anyone before. I hadn’t either. But i always asked her if she had ever done that because she had a boyfriend before me who was crazy trying to get her back and i was obviously with her. She always said no, and like i said before, i believed it and would bet my life on it because she was the sweetest most innocent girl i had ever known. I KNEW i was the first. We continued to do things like that quite a bit. For some reason, she always asked if i thought she was a whore. I always told her of course not, its not like you’d done that with anyone else right? and she’d say right. It was August 11th that we had a little problem and i asked her again repeatedly if she’d ever done that. Around midnight after not answering the phone and being hard to contact she sent me a text telling me how sorry she was that she couldn’t be honest with me. Her exact words were "you might even break up with me if you knew that he has fingered me and i jacked him off." As soon as i read that message my heart broke. That was the most miserable i’d ever been. She was the sweetest girl i’d ever known and i thought i knew she had never done that. To a lot of people it wouldn’t matter, but to me it did, a lot. I wanted to die, i wanted to kill her ex, i wanted to do so many stupid things. It hurts every time i see him these days and all i want is to attack him. I know it seems immature, but i can’t get off of it. She cried and told me how sorry she was for lying to me and that she’d never lie to me again. And now comes more sexuality…a while after i had left it alone and one day we got even more intimate at my house. We had done what we usually did and then she asked if i wanted to put my penis in her panties, so i did. And it was basically just frottage from then on until one day she was like just stick it in once and we did that. Later on, we basically had sex a couple of times. I asked her if she had done that with him and she says no and that she’s not lying to me this time. But it is November 24th and i still feel pain that she did that with him and that i wasn’t her first and only. It hurts more and more everytime i think about it. There were two nights that i was hurting so bad that i started drinking, which was the first time that i had ever drank in my life. I also smoked once to get this "buzz" that people speak of, and i did. But i still hurt. And i went on and on again about it to her yesterday and today. Basically, i’m just going to cut it short and ask, is there any advice that anyone can give me mend my pain? It just still hurts and i need someone to talk to me
It just doesn’t matter…..it just doesn’t matter….it just doesn’t matter………
RT | Nov 24, 2009
its awful when u give someone a chance to tell the truth and they dont-but in all fairness to her,she must love you b-c it ate her up with guilt.would u have still loved her if she would have told u the truth?no need to drink or smoke,if u love her, move on past it.let her know that there is no room in ur relationship for lies, and u are wiping the slate clean-and dont bring it up again.but if u feel u cannot trust her,u got to let her go,no relationship can survive someone who isnt trusting the other person.she made a mistake, forgive her,she didnt cheat on u,,,she just wasnt honest.the way to get over the hurt is talk to her and forgive her.dont rehash it and the hurt will subside
paul | Nov 24, 2009
Stop drinking and don’t start smoking it will make it worse trust me on that. If she can do lie to you shes not worth it I know this from being cheated on a few times even though she feels like shes worth the fight and you "know" she is and I probably wont change your mind because I know I wouldn’t have changed mine but just trust that she is not worth the pain she brings to you I wish I could really just prove that but I can’t you need to know your not the first one to go through it and wont be the last maybe someday you’ll be in my shoes and be able to explain it better. You should just let go of her the drinking and the cigs they will be allot harder to stop later on then you think. I hope that helps even if its just the slightest bit.
Philip Wayne Rollins | Nov 24, 2009
i agree with paul. she didnt cheat on you. she seems to have cared about your feelings enough that she thought lying was the best way to make you feel better. and from what you say she has remorse of what she did, in having relations and in lying. its an honest mistake. dont ruin your own life by drinking and smoking just because youre depressed over a little romance. if you really dont trust her from her on out its not worth sticking with her. but she seems like a good catch and really cares about you and you obviously love her so just forgive and forget. its all in the past. also try not to have hard feelings against the ex-boyfriend. its not his fault either. he was in an honest relationship with her at the time and was in the exact same circumstance you are in now. just think of how a theoretical future boyfriend (god forbid) would feel about your actions on her. just to put things in perspective try putting yourself in his shoes.

So here is my problem. Everytime I like a girl or date a girl or even mention that I’m attracted to them they find a boyfriend, and they seem to be really happy with them. I don’t think once since this whole thing started has a girl I liked gone out with a guy and is not still with him. What the hell is wrong with me? Like over the summer I had a girlfriend, and everything seemed great, then one day out of nowhere she up and leaves me. So what they hell?
No, it’s not you. That is just a part of life. Dating is trial and error. I would recommend laying off of the ladies for a while though. Stop looking for somebody, because I promise you that once you stop looking it will come to you. It happened to me. Hope this helps!

That’s odd. You tell them you like them, and they find someone ELSE? Perhaps they are just using that person as a means to reject you. Don’t take it personally. Just keep interacting with people and a special girl will come to you. Give it time, and don’t take the rejections personally.
Girls can be very flaky. That’s just a fact of life. If they don’t call back, they’re not interested. That’s about all there is to that.

Recession squeeze hits scholarships
13.10.09
Between reading “Beowulf” and writing his thesis
on a knight of the Round Table, Andrew M. Richmond devoted
time last spring to a more modern quest: finding money to
pay for graduate school.
Holed up in his dormitory room at the University of
Massachusetts, the senior literature major from Monson spent
hours applying for the dwindling number of fellowships
available to graduate students.
“It was like a second job, but you have to do
it,” explained Richmond, who enrolled at the University
of Cambridge in England this fall. “You have to apply
for as many as you can.”
Across the Pioneer Valley, some foundations have cut back
on student aid, while others try to hold steady amid a
recession that is taking an increasingly harsh toll on
education and philanthropy.
Some groups, such as the Community Foundation of Western
Massachusetts and the Big Y World Class Markets Foundation,
have struggled to maintain funding levels, despite shrinking
investment income or reduced donations.
Others, including the Springfield-based Horace Smith Fund,
have reduced the number of scholarships or given out smaller
amounts to students.
“We had to make some changes. There were not many good
alternatives,” said Benjamin Bump, executive secretary
of the Smith Fund.
The difficult decisions faced by the educational charities
reflect the new, post-recession reality confronting nearly
all philanthropic groups nationwide. Even as their
endowments are shrinking, foundations are facing
unprecedented requests for help.
One the largest, the Minneapolis-based Scholarship America,
distributed 53,380 scholarships for 2008, down 16 percent
from the previous year.
At the same time, the organization, which oversees 1,200
separate funds, said the number of applications rose by 15
percent, to 352,949.
