A hero doesn’t need to be strong, nor handsome, nor great at everything, a hero can be an everyday person. A hero is someone who impacts you. My hero is understanding, caring, helpful, and honest. My hero is my amazing stepfather Ray. He is always there for me no matter what. I can talk with him about anything and everything, go to him for advice, and he is always there.
When we lost my mom to cancer, it was hard on everyone. Ray amazed me at how well he took my moms death. I always knew Ray was a strong man, I just never knew how strong he was. He knew life would be different with with her not around, but that never phased him. He had to take on the role of mom and dad, and being a single parent. He never complained or showed fear no matter how bad things got. He always has a bright outlook on life. He knows no matter how hard times get, they will pass and he will see the light at the end of the tunnel. A hero isn’t a person who can fly in the sky, or someone who has x-ray vision, it’s a person who has good qualities and an amazing personality. If you met Ray, you would understand why I call him "My Hero".

1. After "everything" in the first sentence, use a ; instead of a ,
2. Impact means "bump, collision, concussion, crash, jar, jolt, shock, smash, strike, wallop". Use another verb in your second sentence.
3. In the fourth sentence, add a comma after "stepfather".
4. Second paragraph, second sentence–apostrophe in "mom’s"
5. Phased is incorrect. You meant "fazed" (to disturb the composure of : disconcert, daunt <nothing fazed her>)
6. Comma after "fear"
7. Next to last sentence–use a ; instead of a , after "vision".
The content of your essay should earn you an A. If you fix the nit-picking errors, it should be a slam-dunk.

What's the deal with expired turkeys this year?
Ok, so I have been reading through some of the food questions and answers looking for ideas for Thanksgiving. I can’t help but notice so many questions asking if it’s safe to cook a turkey that’s X days past it’s expiration (some of which are over a year past). I’ve always used the rule "when in doubt throw it out". Freezers and refrigerators are not mystical magic boxes that allow time to stand still and food to last forever. Expired food does not become magically good again just because it’s the holiday season.
Oh and for the love of God, if it’s not safe or is expired, don’t save it for the local food drive. Needy people do not have a special power to consume spoiled food. I work in a hospital and the number of actual food poisoning cases that come in between thanksgiving, christmas and new years are higher than that for the entire year.
Whats the deal with the holidays and expired food?
Thanks for spreading the word about expired food! I have been telling friends and family about this for years.You are so right……too many people do think that their refridgerators/freezesr are magic boxes where nothing goes bad, then they wonder why they got sick.. You do have to clean and clear them out regularly and also the kitchen pantry. Never buy more than you know you and your family can consume within a certain time. Also, besides never giving expired food away to others, never feed it to your pets. If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t give it to them, either!

What is reasonable compensation for me to pay a apartment realty agent?
My boyfriend and I are having a little one and are in need of a bigger space, still a apartment but yet reasonable…I would prefer using a realtor because I’m due in the spring and I wanna be moved in at least by the new year…the only thing is I don’t know what the average rate is of a realtor to help find a apartment in NY, (Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan)….any suggestions….realtor recommendation greatly appreciated…

I live on Long Island and used realtors for 2 apartments-worst landlords i ever had but they charge a Months fee some will take off some but most dont. If your rent is 1200 they get 1200 on top of the security you have to put down so be sure you have it. the agent i used on one apartment took off 100.00 but that was it.
