I Am Confessing My Sins. Will You Give Me Your Opinion Of My 2nd Confession?
I have not ever told anyone this before. I once purchased a puppy for my Mother as a gift. She did not want it. I tried to keep it myself, but I did not have the patience for it. I hit it, kicked it, yelled at it, and even once threw it across the room. I don’t consider myself to be a cruel person, but I was cruel to this puppy. Finally, I became so sick of myself that I went to the pound when they were closed, and I tied the puppy up to the fence, and abandoned it. I feel very guilty about this, and I know how wrong it was. This was about 10 years ago, and I’ve never forgiven myself.
I took a moment to read your previous questions, hoping to gain some insight. It is my opinion that the frustrations you feel concerning a strained relationship with your mother led to the abuse of this puppy. Although your mother was abusive, to your young mind, any attention was better than no attention. When she rejected that puppy, she rejected you.
You can’t change what’s happened in the past; you can only change your response to it. Dwelling on this incident prevents you from moving forward; overwhelming guilt prevents any form of forgivness. Atone, dear. Volunteer at the local shelter, take in an animal in need… Through caring for another animal, you will "make up" for the wrongs brought on this puppy.
Don’t be so hard on yourself. This incident is in the past, and there it should remain. Time to move forward, and on to better things.
I need to add that when you "abandoned" that puppy at the shelter, you gave it a chance at a better life. You cared enough about the puppy to do this. A lot of people in your situation would have just let him die …
There’s a good, loving heart beating inside you. It is my hope that, in time, you learn to love yourself.

Most will not admit it, but this type of evil is in all of us, in some form or another.
The fact that you now feel badly about it shows you have empathy. Which is a great virtue. All of us have the potential for evil, and we all act on it eventually.

My parents pick the most random things to punish me for, it really hurts – what should I do?
I’m not a problem child – I’m really not, I never have been – and very rarely do I do something so immature as to complain about my parents, especially on the internet. I know how this looks.
I’m sixteen, and, of course, going through the typical breaking-free period, wherein I’m trying to be my OWN person, with my own ideas, whatever. I agree, genuinely agree, with my parents on most things – politics, etc. – but when it comes to little things, things that aren’t even important, they come down on me like I’ve suddenly announced that I’m a hippie shooting drugs, which would totally ruin their reputation.
For example, the name my parents chose for me, when I was not present to petition for something different, is purposefully very generic. They didn’t want anything hard to spell. As it so happens, I HATE generic names, anything un-meaningful or unartistic, so a long time ago I chose a name for myself that I would write under: Garnet Lucinda.
I respect that they want me to keep the name they gave me. I’m not so insensitive as to walk around saying, "NO! You have to call me Garnet now!" I wouldn’t do that. I do sign my artwork ‘Garnet,’ and my stories are headed ‘Garnet Lucinda,’ and they grumble, but the other shoe really dropped this week.
I got money from Christmas – you know, twenty bucks, whatever – and used it to buy a CD off Barnes and Noble. I have an account there, so when it asked for my name, I just put ‘Garnet’ and then my ‘real’ last name in the blank. I didn’t think anything of it. I mean, it doesn’t matter. It’s just the first name on the package label.
It should’ve arrived this one evening, but I got home from a friend’s house, and asked my dad about it, and he insisted nothing had come. I showed him the confirmation email, and asked if he thought it could be at the neighbor’s, and he started yelling at me – he started yelling that it had come for someone named ‘Garnet’ and ‘Garnet’ (he said it with so much disgust) was NOT my name, and I was disrespecting my name, and how dare I go by any other name? Then he wouldn’t give it to me, he kept insisting that I had committed the horrible crime of ‘disrespecting your name!’ and he won’t tell me where my package is. I knew he wasn’t thrilled with my signing my art and stuff under a different name, but he didn’t get so angry over that! I can’t figure out why it matters so much! He and mom never noticed the times I scratched myself until I bled, he never bothered to notice what books I read, or even really what music I listen to, and then he withholds my package, that I paid for with my money, given to me by relatives other than himself, and for what? The first name on the label? He has taken my property, probably thrown it in the garbage, stolen my money, just because I put my self-given nickname on the label? Why? What have I done wrong? I’m not forcing him to call me anything other than my ‘given’ name. I just wear clothes that are a little different, and write stories, and draw pictures, and want to call myself, even just in private, just with things that concern only me, a name that actually means ME – and he screams at me? He picks THIS to notice, and get angry about? If I didn’t hate my ‘real’ name before, I hate it now!
Sorry, that was really long, and probably kind of whiney, but it makes me feel better just typing it out. I would appreciate some advice.
I can’t wait until I can leave here, and not have to walk on eggshells… and call myself whatever I want… but of all things why pick *that* to scream at me for???…
well the thing is alot of artists, writers, even actors don;t go by their real name..so its not uncommon for you to feel teh same way esp you being artistic but maybe if you explain it calmly to your parents that you love the name they given to you but in the artistic world you would like to be known as garnet because it describes the artistic side of you.

you should point out to your parents that you are a "good" person and that if that isnt working out for them then maybe give them a ‘false’ threat saying that if they are gonna keep getting mad at the little things then you will give them something to really get mad at. and if not, then think that you have less than 2 years before you can finally leave them and live by your own rules. i just turned 17 last december and i continue to have roblems with my parents over simple things as staying up an houw or 2 late doing HOMEWORK!! not watchign tv or something..
i think we should just hold on until we can finally leave our parents..

As a mom, I really think that the best thing to do would be to print this out, catch your dad in a good mood, hand it to him and say, "how would you answer this?"
That’s not advice I give lightly. I think you’ve presented your case very well. I also think it’s normal for a teenaged girl to change her name. I tried to convince my family to call me "Jocelyn" (oddly enough, that’s a name that now has a very negative association for me), but they wouldn’t go for it. no yelling or anything. They just kept calling me "Lea"
If you want to take the easy way out, tell your dad that you understand him & that you’ll stick to using your birth name in all official ways (like addresses), but that your "artist pseudonym" will be Garnet Lucinda. It’s not unheard of for artists and writers to have professional and private names. Ooohh — just had an idea. Point out to him that using a pseudonym is actually safer for when your work is on display. Nobody can start to stalk you or anything like that.
I like Garnet Lucinda. But I’m one who saddled my daughter with one that’s hard for people to pronounce correctly — Anthea (anTHAYah) she gets Athena, Alina, Althea — all sorts of variations. I understand. For half of my life, my own grandparents pronounced my name wrong (Lee instead of Lee-ah) Even mom couldn’t get them to do it. I actually stopped answering to that one day, but that resolution went to the wind when my Papa said, "Lee! You want some of this (homemade, in a non-mechanical, turn-the-crank-yourself ice cream maker) ice cream?"
lea | Jan 07, 2010
You assume the name they chose for you was chosen because it was "generic and easy to spell" – you have no idea what it’s like naming a baby with the thousands of names that are out there! Your parents probably put a lot of though into it, so of course it hurts their feelings when you "disrespect" them. To use "Garnet" in private in your drawings and writing is one thing – to assume another identity (illegally, might I add) by using that as your given name (whether it’s "just a package label" or not) was wrong. I understand the "I’m a good girl" thing and of all the things that COULD be upsetting them, this seems minor to you, but a lot of what you have written in your "question" says to me that you’re looking for attention from your parents – even if it’s negative. Scratching until you bleed and weren’t noticed? never bothered to notice what books you read, music you listen to, etc… "Gee – I know what will piss them off and make them notice me – I’ll start using Garnet all the time!" Admit it – you’re seeking attention from your parents and now you’re ticked off because it didn’t get you the type of attention you wanted.

I feel bad for U that this is happening to U. Your Dad is being ridiculous. But U R underage and stuck there for a while. Just back off and know that your freedom will come. I think most people here on Q & A will be supportive of U, but U will have to be super patient and play your parents’ stupid game for a while longer. Just be more clever about how U rebel since they are that stupid. Maybe U will get revenge some day by putting their characters in a book or play or song or poem.

What is your control drama, we all play them you know?
Read "The Celestine Prophecy" Books by James Redfield. A priest in Peru 500 years ago wrote about the control dramas we all play. The
Poor Me, who makes you feel sorry for them. The Interrogator, who asks questions till they find something they can use against you. The Intimidater, who blows up and screams and kicks things. And the Aloof, who gives you the silent treatment. I used to be an Aloof.
But he said we do these things to drain each others vital energy to "try"
and survive. Because we have cut ourselves off from the Source of Life that is All Around Us.

Do you believe letting a child put extra hair in their hair, that's a different color, is unacceptable?
I asked my mom if I could add colored weave to my hair, pink or blue, not go over board and do a whole style in it but just a few streaks. She said no because I am not "ghetto" and she doesn’t want me not to get a job, which I am currently trying to find one, just because I have bright colors in my head. I understand her point of view but I tried to "argue" that it’s better for a kid to try out things when they are younger then when they have established an offical career and go in as a buisness woman with every kinda color in their head. I mean, I am going to listen to her opinion and hold off on getting hair added of those colors but what do you think about it?
Well, my hair is dark brown (looks black though) so I’d probably just go with a regular color like blonde.
Basically she said because I am an African American female she would not like me to dress up and look all nice but have colored hair in my head and appear like I’m going to act that way on the job. She didn’t mean it to be rude just meant that if I’m an intelligent, young lady, who really wants the job (and needs it for school) then why appear as though I’m going to act a way that some people may sterotype me as just because I have colored hair in my head.
as hard as it to hear "no" sometimes, you are blessed…a mom who cares is worth her weight in gold…ask if you can have a sleep over and wear them there, for one night, or have a mom and daughter night and put them in each others hair. Bet you look pretty but it is better to have caring and involved mom…
annie42 | Jan 12, 2010
Your Mom’s right. Wait until you have a job. Unfortunately, a first impression is human nature, so you may jeopardize your chances by not looking "professional". Once you have the joband give your employers enough time to see your positive attributes, you can get the colour streak… nothing too crazy.
naenae0011 | Jan 12, 2010
I do have to agree with your mom. If you are looking for a job then now is not the time to be doin crazy things to your appearance. That would be like getting your lip and nose pierced then going into an Attorney’s Office asking for a job ya know? Also I don’t see a point in putting tons of colors and fake hair in your own hair either. I dyed mine all kinds of crazy colors when I was a teenager and it friend my hair,I understand that you are just adding fake hair but still…its really not worth it. All it does is add some different colors and there is ALWAYS someone who is gonna bash it which isn’t that great for the self esteem. I mean be your own person but its not really worth it to put all kinds of crazy stuff on yourself. Plus no job is gonna hire someone who has pink and blue in their hair(just example colors) unless you plan on getting a job at Hot Topic or Spencers or something like that(which is no job to look forward to keeping,no offense to anyone cause I love those stores..but still). Your mom is looking out for your best interests, she’s not telling you no just to make you mad. We,as parents, want the best for our children and sometimes telling them no,for even stuff like this, is our idea of looking out for you(our children). Just listen to your mom, you’ll thank her later when you have a job =)
onlyme212529 | Jan 12, 2010
What colours are you talking about? Blond highlights would not be an issue. Bright blue, that’s a problem.
See, if I was the manager of a store, and I wanted to maintain a professional standard, and I had one applicant with a natural hair colour, and one who looked like Rainbow Brite, which one am I going to hire?
And when I worked for The Disney Store, along with a long list of other restrictions, we we not allowed to colour our hair an unnatural colour.
Your mom is correct on this one.
Charm | Jan 12, 2010
Why not compromise. Instead of getting something permanent or expensive, purchase either some clip in funky colors, or else some of the colored gel or spray. Something that can be easily removed and washed out.
This way you can experiment with your hair when going out with friends, and then look a little more presentable at the other times.
As a teen, I did a lot of crazy things with my hair. My parents usually never minded nor said much. I don’t feel these teen phases really had any negative impact, but I do look back at it and either laugh or cringe at some of the things I did.
Hopefully your mom can come around and try and remember what it was like to be a teenager.
Pumpkin DBAB | Jan 12, 2010
Can you find a less permanent option than a weave? I know it won’t look the same, but you could take it out for job hunting and wear it when it’s more appropriate.
Would you be willing to take a more natural color for now so it looks more professional, and then switch it out later?
I do agree with your argument, but if you’re job hunting, you’ve kind of missed that "do it while you’re younger" window, at least for now. What kinds of jobs are you trying to find, though? Overall, the way you dress, your attitude, and your overall professionalism are going to speak much more than some non-natural colored weave. If you can find a way of balancing it and making sure that it is not defining you, it’s worth a shot. Employers would rather hire someone who is qualified, stable, and going to be the best person for the job, and if everything else about you speaks to your qualifications, the odd colors shouldn’t cause too many problems.
rainwriterm | Jan 12, 2010
your mom is uneducated say’n "no because I am not "ghetto" was uncalled for .ask her 2 define ghetto .also i commend you for respecting your mom’s wishes no matter how rude they are . IMDB rating: 5.70 Plot: It’s 5 years after the battle against Gozer. A restraining order has forbidden Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, and Egon Spengler from working as Ghostbusters, and as a result, they’ve had to find other jobs. Ray owns a book store called “Ray’s Occult” and performs at children’s birthday parties with Winston, Egon conducts experiments at the institute for advanced theoretical research, Dana Barrett broke up with Peter some time ago before marrying another guy, and Peter now hosts a local TV show called “The World of the Psychic”. Dana, who is now the divorced mother of an 8-month-old baby named Oscar, works in the restoration department at the Manhattan Museum of Art. Strange things start happening when Oscar’s baby carriage takes off by itself with Oscar in it, and it stops in the middle of 1st Avenue. While Dana’s boss, Janosz Poha, is restoring a painting of a 16th-century tyrant named Vigo Von Homburg Deutschendorf, the painting comes to life. Vigo wants to live again by taking over Oscar’s body. Vigo takes complete control of Janosz and orders Janosz to get Dana to cooperate. Janosz also has his own agenda. He wants Dana because he’s in love with her. When Peter, Ray, and Egon try to help Dana, they are arrested and put on trial for violating the restraining order. When the ghosts of the killer Scoleri Brothers show up at the court room, the judge is forced to remove the restraining order against the guys so they can put the Scoleri Brothers in a ghost trap. After this, Peter, Ray, Egon, and Winston re-open Ghostbusters, and mayor’s assistant Jack Hardemeyer tries to slow them down any way he can, because he believes the Ghostbusters are frauds who will hurt the mayor’s chances of becoming the governor of New York. The Ghostbusters and their lawyer, Louis Tully, refuse to be stopped by Jack. Which game would you buy? FNR4 – Infamous – Prototype?
My school holidays started and I am getting really bored so I decided to get another PS3 game but I can only get one of these three:
i) Fight Night Round 4
ii) Infamous
iii) Prototype
Please help me decide on which to purchase ( which is the best out of the three )
P.S. I have already finished games like Killzone 2, Ghostbusters, etc… I have finished most of the blockbuster games already for the past few months. AND renting PS3 games is not allowed in my country
blaze, the best game in market is prototype, so grab a copy of it and start playing for your holidays.

Infamous period. I finished it and i’m playing it again being evil now. My cousin has prototype and he really likes it, but based on what he has told me, and on reviews i’ve read about prototype, infamous is best. Forget fight night round 4… this decision is about infamous or prototype lol. I will make it easier for you to decide and hopefully agree with me; these are the reviews from gamespot on infamous and prototype – click on watch video review:

To be honest
Infamous Is REALLY good. Better than Prototype.
But Infamous got old for me after I beat it the first time.
Sure you can go through it again being good or Evil, but you have to do the same stuff over again.
I would say Get Fight night round 4.
I have the Game, and there is a Crap load of stuff to do.
The Graphics are good, and almost every site gives it a 9/10.
Once site even scored it perfectly.
The biggest thing to do, is creating people, and taking them through Legacy mode.
That is the best thing to do.
Also, in each fight, you could be winning by a long shot.
Then, they throw a counter punch and KNOCK YOUR ASS OUT.
*Coughs* James Toney!! Knocked me out. I was ahead in the 9th round, and he knocked me out, and I couldnt get back up. There went my undefeated streak of 37-0 >,<
I say get FNR4 It will provide more Gameplay hours.
It will provide WAY more hours if you have online, or a friend to play with as well.

What do you think of the beginning of my story? Please Read?
This is a story meant for 7 -12 year olds. It’s about a young girl who gets lost in another world. I know it has been done before. I’m actually writing it for a little girl I know. What do you think? I feel like it’s missing something. I’m 16 and taking a creative writing class.
Mariah laid perfectly still in her canopy bed with the drapes drawn, hiding from Hester, her lady-in-waiting. Any minute now, Hester would come down the hall calling her to her morning etiquette lessons, which Mariah despised with a passion. She managed to evade Hester for most of the morning. Sooner or later Hester would check her room, which would take a while, for she was searching around a huge castle. Mariah balled her fist tight against her chest concentrating, wishing. She’d do anything to get out of her etiquette lessons. "Oh please, please don’t let Hester find me. I promise that I’ll be a good girl for now on." She hesitated, rethinking what she had said. "Well I’ll try to behave." It was hard for a young lady to stay out of trouble in such a big castle with nothing to do. Her parents were having their anniversary party today and her older sister was busy doing what older sisters do. No one had time for her except Mrs. Finnegin, her etiquette instructor. However, better known to Mariah as a fun sucking leech. "I’ll obey my parents. I’ll keep my fancy clothes free from dirt. I’ll act lady like." She went on and on about all the good things she would do. "I’ll even keep my elbows off the table when eating.", claimed Mariah.
She was right in the middle of declaring, how she would never again hide under Hester’s bed and scare her when she heard her name called. Though in complete darkness, she closed her eyes tight, wishing that she could disappear. Wishing that just this one time, by some stroke of luck, a glitch in time, a wrinkle in reality that she would go unseen by Hester. Wishing to stumble into a mystical, forgotten land. Accompanied by strange creatures, traveling unfamiliar roads, on a quest to the unknown. "Mariah!", screamed Hester. This time her scream was different. It was filled with anger and hostility. "Oh no!" Mariah opened her eyes and pulled back the drapes slightly. With a slant of light shining through, she could see her hand holding the drapes. At once her heart dropped to her feet. "I should have known it wouldn’t work. Maybe I wished too hard."
A thought accumulated in Mariah’s mind. She thought that maybe once Hester found her she would instantly vaporize right before her eyes, scaring her out of her wits. She laughed at the thought of frightening Hester. Again Hester called her name, causing Mariah to jump straight up in her bed. She peaked her head between the drapes and closed them swiftly as Hester marched through her bedroom door. She listened closely to Hester’s foot steps coming towards her bed. She could hear her fumbling around, searching for her. The noise stopped unexpectedly, so did Mariah’s breathing. She sat waiting, certain that Hester could hear the hectic beating of her heart. With every second that passed the anticipation mounted. It begun with a funny feeling in her toes, crawling up to her knees, tingling gradually up her spine. Slowly she crept to the foot of her bed, poking her head through the drapes. The camel back sofa against the wall was unoccupied. A little to the left stood a cherry wood wardrobe. Definitely Hester wouldn’t be hiding there. Crawling just a wee bite more, she leaned against a ceder chest that sat at the very foot of her bed. Underneath lay a frizzy rug taking up most of the room. It reminded Mariah of uncut grass, only this grass was pink. She spotted the large window seat, which was empty as well.
"She must have left." Mariah thought. "That was easy." She resumed her breathing and wiggled back inside her safe haven. Her head was half way on her pillow when without a warning, Hester throw open the drapes. "Ahhhhhhhh!" , screamed Mariah, bouncing up from her pillow, head nearly touching the ceiling. "You scared me Hester!" Hester’s face was pink and her nose was pinched in an angry flare. Mariah could almost see steam emitting from her ears, releasing pent-up fury. Normally Hester had a pretty face, but all she saw was an ugly glare.
"How dare you hide from me you wicked little thing."
"Oh…um…..yes. Actually, I wasn’t hiding." Honestly she was hiding, but Hester was her lady-in -waiting, so she thought she’d make her wait until she decided to make an appearance. "What do you call this then, huh? Hester tossed the drapes, waiting for an answer. "Your bed drapes are never closed during the day." She grabbed Mariah’s arm and dragged her out of bed. It was true about Mariah’s drapes. On a regular basis, Hester could find her hiding in the library reading, traveling to distant lands. "Don’t make me go Hester. I cursed the day Mrs. Finnagin came to t
Awe I think it’s cute. There is a bit to work on with description etc. but nothing a little editing won’t fix. I definitely would have eaten up a story like this when I was 7-12 and to be completely honest probably still would today at 17 years young. =) The little girl you’re writing this for is very lucky.
Good Luck

Kinda boring. Be more descriptive, and use proper punctuation.
